How to Enhance Your Content Creation Process in 2023


The New Year allows you to rethink your approach to work and life. For those whose jobs include creating content, the process is just as important as the subject matter. As you look ahead to 2023, consider the "how" of content creation as you plan your editorial calendar. Create a content creation framework that eliminates guesswork, ensures accuracy, and drives brand-building results.

Assess Previous Performance
Just because the New Year provides a blank slate doesn't mean you should create content without considering what you've written about before. Your new content should fill gaps in your current asset inventory. You should build on the success of previously successful content. So, before you dive in, examine your performance data and analytics. If you already have a solid content library, consider which pieces have resonated with your audience. Examine the metrics of your website, social media sharing, and SEO performance.

Identify themes in high-performing content and think about what they're telling you. For example, if you work in finance, examine the various finance publications to see which pieces of content performed the best. These media outlets are entirely focused on producing interesting content. You can learn something from how their content performs.

Set Meaningful Objectives
Simply creating content isn't enough; each published piece must be purpose-driven. Assign both new and old pieces to a strategic goal that your entire organisation is working towards. For example, determine which components will assist you in upselling your existing clients to a higher-level package. Case studies demonstrating how other clients have used your advanced offering to cut expenses or generate revenue may persuade your customers. A feature comparison may also convince them to make the switch.
Keep in mind that focusing solely on views will have little impact on revenue. Set goals that connect content to customer action, and use click tracking and cookies (where possible) to track customer engagement. Examine customer feedback data for potential pain points, paying close attention to qualitative feedback. Use what you've learned to clarify your objectives, which you can use as a checklist as you create content.

Create a Content Strategy
Creating goal-aligned content that addresses your customers' needs and desires is only half the battle. The other half is ensuring that it reaches them. You must prioritise the distribution component of your content strategy to avoid your content falling into an internet black hole. Depending on your objectives, you may publish your content on your own channels, third-party sites, or a combination. If lead generation is your goal, a gated white paper on your website could be the key. When increasing brand credibility, you must get mentions in reputable third-party publications. Obtaining backlinks to that white paper from high-authority external sources can aid in both lead generation and SEO.

Set Deadlines to Maintain Momentum
Deadlines influence nearly every aspect of life. A specific deadline can motivate people in ways that "at your earliest convenience" cannot. However, your deadlines will be affected by factors other than the speed with which content can be created. For example, you must allow for legal review if you work in a highly regulated industry. 
Create a deadline-driven review process to keep you compliant and agile in the New Year. Consider your strategic objectives as well as the stakeholders involved in your process. Determine which types of content must be reviewed, by whom, and for how long. Determine acceptable turnaround times with the relevant parties, which will help your content marketing strategy plan accordingly. If subject matter experts require three business days, your team will be aware of when to submit copy for review. Agree on what to do when certain employees are absent from the office.

Content is not only a supplement to your business, but it is also a way to serve others. You may be trying to gain more clients and increase revenue, but your reader is probably looking for answers or a solution to a problem. As you align your content with your 2023 goals, keep your readers' needs in mind.

When you use your subject matter expertise to solve their problem, you help them achieve their goals and yours. The more value you can provide, the higher your brand's credibility and revenue in 2023 will be. Keeping yourself alert of white collar crime while considering the process is paramount.
