SEO Blogging and Building Your Brand Identity
Search engine optimisation is extremely important for the online presence of businesses. When you optimise your website pages, including your blogs -- your website becomes more visible to people who are searching with keywords related to your products, services and especially your brand through search engines like Yahoo, Bing and Google
How does SEO work?
Search engines have developed instinctive algorithms that rank every website, and they send out signals that are called spiders to visit your website and search it for very specific indicators like backlinks, domain age, freshness of content and the sort of traffic the site attracts. These trackers then tell them what your site’s “online” value is, how valid it is and then decides how to rank it accordingly.
The more ‘fresh content’ your site receives (blogs – or new content pages) the higher the rank will be. If your content includes SEO keywords from within your industry, related to products and services you offer, it will rank even higher. The highest-ranking websites end up on Page 1 on Google, the rest are usually lost in the darkness of the WWW.
It’s an extremely complex thing to understand, because the variables are constantly changing, but if your business is adding new blogs to your site at least weekly, if not more frequently, then your chances of reaching the top page of search engines is increased far more so than those competitors who are doing nothing.
Blogging Basics
Get your own domain name
Free blog sites don’t help with your SEO, as search engines won’t point to them unless they are getting very serious traffic.
Use only original content
Using someone else’s content copy/pasted to your site is only going to confuse the trackers. Using 100% original content will have far better results for your business, and your website rank. Hire a copywriter to do the job for you, and you will be guaranteed original content. Copywriters also have the skills required to solve problems with words, which in theory is what your website blog content should do for your potential customers.
Backlinks are a natural draw to your website
Backlinks are other websites that link back to your website – an example of this is online directories, or other people’s blogs where you feature as a content writer for them. Commenting on other blogs also counts as backlinks, so if you search for other people’s blogs in a similar field, (maybe the ones that are on Page 1 of Google) and comment on their posts, it not only builds backlinks, but it also builds relationships within your industry.
Permalink structure is important
Permalinks are basically the name of each page once it is posted, and consists of a root and an extension. An example is below, just so you understand.
The Link: http://www.angelbluemarketing.com/blogging-for-your-business
Root: angelbluemarketing.com
Extension: /blogging-for-your-business
It’s important to make the permalinks as simple as possible, and it’s often most simplified when setting your permalink as your blog title.
Build your social media channels
Your social channels now have a huge effect on your SEO, so adding the same content that is on your website to your Facebook business page will help you rank higher. Your copywriter can write an SEO based introduction to your most recent blog you want to share, based on structure from your website content itself.
